With many users now watching Reels on mute, especially in public spaces, auto-captions have become essential for content creators on Facebook. Adding subtitles not only enhances accessibility for the hearing-impaired but also helps grab viewers’ attention instantly.

Facebook’s auto-caption feature allows spoken words in Reels to appear as text on-screen, making it easier for viewers to follow the content without sound. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use this feature:

Steps to add auto-captions on Facebook reels:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your Android or iPhone.
  2. Tap the ‘+’ icon at the top of your screen.
  3. Select the ‘Reels’ option from the menu.
    • To create a photo-based Reel, select one or more photos. Tap ‘Select Multiple’ if choosing more than one.
    • To create a video Reel, tap the arrow beside the gallery and select ‘Videos’ to access your video clips.
  4. Once you’ve selected your media, tap the ‘CC’ icon (usually located on the right side of the screen) to enable auto-captions.
  5. Facebook will take a moment to generate captions automatically. Once done, you can edit the captions by tapping the ‘Edit Captions’ button.
  6. Tap on any word you want to change. After editing, tap ‘Done’.
  7. Finally, tap ‘Next’ to proceed and then ‘Share Now’ to publish your Reel.

Liberty News’ tech correspondent states that using captions not only increases engagement but also makes your content more inclusive and viewer-friendly.
