Former Bangladesh captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Khaled Mashud Pilot has been named the head of the High Performance (HP) Unit for Bangladesh cricket in October 2025, following the election took place on Monday. He takes charge of the crucial department tasked with bridging the gap between the national team and the Under-19 side.
Having represented Bangladesh in numerous international matches, Pilot now transitions into an administrative role following the recent Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
Reflecting on his new responsibility, Pilot said in the press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after the first board meeting on Tuesday, “I feel honored that I’ve been given the opportunity to work. The HP (High Performance) unit is very important. It sits right in the middle between the national team and the Under-19 team. It is already dynamic, and I hope to work on making it even more dynamic.”
Speaking about the first day in his new role, Pilot added, “I didn’t sleep at all last night. Earlier, I had participated in the elections, which was a very memorable experience. Today was my first day sitting on the board chair.”
The former wicketkeeper emphasized teamwork and collaboration, noting, “I observed things on the first day. When it comes to batting, some adjustment is needed. After that, we want to figure out how to share our ideas. We all need to work together to improve. This is not a ceremonial chair; it’s a workplace. When I was a player, it felt different, and now it feels a bit different again. But in reality, we are not separate. Allah has given us the opportunity to work. We will take ideas from everyone and act on them. We have nothing to take from now; we want to give.”
Previously, Shahriar Nafees was managing the HP unit. He had been transferred to the High Performance unit as manager in August 2025, paving the way for Pilot’s appointment to lead the department.
