BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed his fear that if democracy is delayed, the crisis in the country will increase.
He said, “We will remain united in the coming days to reintroduce democracy. We want to bring back a democratic order in Bangladesh through a fair and impartial election. The longer it is delayed, the more the crisis will increase.”
He expressed the apprehension at the inaugural ceremony of the 26th founding anniversary of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday morning.
The ceremony was held at his office in Segunbagicha to mark the 30th founding anniversary of ‘Dhaka Reporters Unity’, the largest organization of professional journalists.
The organization started its journey on this day in 1995. The slogan of this year’s founding anniversary is: Unity-Prosperity.
Amir Khasru said, “Until democracy is reintroduced in the country, the media will not be able to play its role properly. Democracy and media will go hand in hand.”
“As long as there is an absence of democracy, the more there is an absence of democratic order, the more the absence of a democratically elected government increases, the pressure on the media will increase,” he added.
He observed, “No matter who is in power undemocratically, they want to keep the media under pressure under various pressures to stay in power, to continue in power. “
He added that their unity will be to regain democratic, constitutional, political rights which include the freedom of the media.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s assistant Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Dhaka Journalists Union President Shahidul Islam and current and former leaders of Dhaka Reporters Unity were present at the founding anniversary program chaired by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and moderated by General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel.
