The Gujarat Police arrested over 500 Bangladeshi nationals for illegal entry and residing in India with forged documents, according to BBC Bangla.
The Special Operations Group (SOG), Crime Branch, and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) conducted raids across multiple locations, apprehending around 100 individuals in Surat during overnight operations.
Gujarat Deputy Commissioner of Police (SOG) Rajdeep Singh Nakum told ANI that the arrests in Surat followed intelligence inputs.
He added that the detainees, who entered India illegally, will be deported to Bangladesh after investigation.
Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ahmedabad, reported that 450 people were detained in the Chandola area based on information about illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, following directives from the Home Minister, Police Commissioner, and State Director General of Police.
Since April 2024, two FIRs led to the arrest of 127 Bangladeshis, with 77 deported.
Separately, India has cracked down on Pakistani citizens after an attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, revoking their visas and ordering them to leave within a specified period.
States have been instructed to ensure no Pakistani citizens remain, and the central government has directed action against all illegal residents in the country.
