Imams and Muazzins across the country are receiving interest-free micro loans, supported by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance to those trained under the ministry’s Islamic Foundation.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Islamic Foundation’s Imam Training Academy is providing interest-free loans through the Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust. This scheme is specifically for Imams and Muazzins who have completed their training at the academy. Additionally, the trust is offering financial assistance to Imams and Muazzins facing financial hardships.
For the 2024-25 fiscal year, a total of 600 Imams and Muazzins nationwide have received interest-free loans amounting to 1 crore 80 lakh Taka. Furthermore, 4,620 individuals are receiving financial support totaling 2 crore 31 lakh Taka. In Dhaka district alone, 295 individuals have received 14 lakh 75 thousand Taka in assistance. The remaining funds are being distributed among selected recipients.
The Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust, established in 2001, provides financial aid and loans to Imams and Muazzins who are unable to work due to severe accidents, disabilities, terminal illnesses, or sudden deaths. The trust also supports the education of their talented children and the welfare of their families.
