India showcased a commanding performance against Bangladesh, securing an eight-wicket victory in their opening Super 6 match of the ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup, held on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Electing to field first after winning the toss, the reigning champions stifled Bangladesh’s batting lineup, limiting them to a modest 64 for eight in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Sumaiya Akter stood out for Bangladesh with a valiant 21 runs, while Jannatul Maoua contributed 14. These were the only two batters to reach double digits. For India, Vaishnavi Sharma delivered an outstanding bowling spell, claiming three wickets for just 15 runs.

Chasing a straightforward target, India cruised to victory with remarkable ease, achieving the total with eight wickets in hand and 77 balls remaining. Trisha Gongadi spearheaded the chase with an impressive 40 runs off 31 balls, ensuring a comfortable win.

Liberty News’ sports correspondent reports that the loss has virtually ended Bangladesh’s hopes in the tournament. Their campaign concludes with a face-off against the West Indies on Tuesday.
