Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has suggested that a change in Bangladesh’s government could affect the country’s relationship with India, although he emphasized that current relations are strong, especially in the military sector.

In a recent statement at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi on Saturday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted that the nature of India-Bangladesh relations could shift if there were a change in the government of Bangladesh. According to Dwivedi, while it is too early to make any definitive conclusions, the current government in Bangladesh maintains a positive relationship with India, particularly with strong military-to-military ties and regular communication to prevent misunderstandings.

However, the General noted that any governmental changes in Bangladesh might influence this dynamic. He also discussed the growing collaboration between Pakistan and China, indicating that India must be prepared for potential threats on two fronts. Dwivedi pointed out that the high-level cooperation between Pakistan and China remains a significant concern from a strategic standpoint for India.

When questioned about Bangladesh’s relationship with Pakistan, the Army Chief emphasized the importance of monitoring potential terrorism-related risks. He explained that if terrorism stems from a particular country, it could also affect neighboring nations, posing a significant concern for India’s security.

Liberty News’ national correspondent states that despite these concerns, General Dwivedi called for coexistence, cooperation, and coordination among countries in the region, stressing that war would not be beneficial for any nation involved. He reiterated that the focus should be on managing situations diplomatically rather than resorting to military conflict, highlighting the importance of maintaining stability and peace in the region.
