Iran has declared that any dialogue with the United States over its nuclear programme is now “meaningless” following Israel’s largest-ever military assault on Iranian targets.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Friday that the US had effectively supported the attack by giving Israel a free hand. “You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time allow the Zionist regime to strike Iranian territory,” he told Tasnim news agency.
He added that Israel had influenced the diplomatic process and accused Washington of complicity, though the US denied those claims at a UN Security Council meeting, urging Iran to return to negotiations.
The sixth round of US-Iran nuclear talks was scheduled for Sunday in Muscat, but its status is now uncertain following the escalation.
Iran insists its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, rejecting Israeli accusations of weapon development. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump told Reuters that his administration had advance knowledge of the Israeli strikes but remained hopeful for a potential agreement.
