After conducting extensive airstrikes this week, Israeli forces have announced an intensified ground offensive in Gaza, particularly targeting the occupation of land in the central Gaza region.
On Wednesday (March 19), the Israeli military confirmed the commencement of a ground operation in Gaza, marking a significant escalation following a series of airstrikes earlier in the week. The Israeli forces are focusing on capturing a buffer zone in central Gaza, with ongoing air assaults supporting the ground operation.
The Israeli military declared its objective of taking control of a territory in the middle of Gaza. This development follows a series of airstrikes, with Israel’s air force continuing its attacks throughout the region. Previously, on Monday, Israel had instructed civilians in East Gaza to evacuate, signaling the likelihood of a ground invasion. Experts had speculated that Israel might deploy ground forces in Gaza once again.
According to German news outlet Deutsche Welle, Israel’s ground forces began entering Gaza on Tuesday. By Wednesday, it was confirmed that the military operation was specifically aimed at securing a buffer zone in central Gaza. The region, known as the Netzarim Corridor, had been captured by Israel during previous military campaigns and served as a strategic divide between the northern and southern parts of Gaza. Although Israel had withdrawn its forces during a ceasefire agreement, the recent move to redeploy troops in this area is seen as a violation of the ceasefire terms.
Israeli air forces continued bombing Gaza on Wednesday night, targeting Hamas infrastructure. However, Hamas officials reported that many civilian casualties had occurred as a result of the airstrikes. According to their figures, 13 individuals, including women and children, were killed on Wednesday alone.
Liberty News’ international correspondent indicated that since Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza on Tuesday, the violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 436 Palestinians, including 183 children. These events have escalated tensions and raised concerns about further civilian suffering in the ongoing conflict.
