Israel has indefinitely suspended the release of Palestinian prisoners, a move criticized by Hamas as a delay tactic by Netanyahu. 620 prisoners were scheduled for release, but the Israeli government’s decision has drawn sharp condemnation.

Israel has postponed the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners indefinitely. This decision comes after a prisoner swap deal, where Hamas had freed six Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of over 600 Palestinian detainees. Hamas has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using this as a tactic to delay, calling it a “deceptive delay” and a “clear violation” of the ceasefire agreement.

Liberty News’ international correspondent reports that in a meeting with top security officials, Netanyahu was advised to proceed with the release, but after a meeting with his cabinet, including far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who rejected the ceasefire and called for continued warfare, Netanyahu ignored the security recommendations and chose to delay the prisoner release.
