Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is scheduled to visit Dhaka in the last week of August, aiming to strengthen longstanding diplomatic and economic relations between Bangladesh and Italy.
In a significant development in bilateral relations, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to arrive in Dhaka on a state visit in late August. The visit marks a continued effort by both nations to deepen cooperation in areas such as legal migration, trade, investment, and countering human trafficking.
According to a diplomatic source familiar with the matter, officials from both sides are finalizing preparations to ensure the success of the high-profile visit. The upcoming trip follows a recent visit by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who met with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on May 5 at the State Guest House Jamuna.
During the meeting, Piantedosi emphasized Italy’s intention to recruit more skilled laborers from Bangladesh through legal channels while enhancing safe migration protocols. Both sides discussed key issues, including the prevention of human trafficking and illegal immigration, and ways to foster mutual trade and investment.
Meloni’s visit is expected to reaffirm Italy’s commitment to stronger engagement with South Asia, particularly Bangladesh, as the two nations explore new opportunities for strategic partnership and collaboration.
