Despite a raging storm and power outages, Bangladesh’s iconic TV show Ityadi successfully filmed its latest episode in the sprawling paddy fields of Datnagar, Jhenaidah — home to Asia’s largest agricultural farm.
Since the 1990s, Ityadi has ventured beyond studio walls to spotlight Bangladesh’s culture, history, and heritage. Continuing this legacy, the latest episode was filmed in Jhenaidah, a district known as the gateway to southwestern Bangladesh.
The open-air stage was built under a massive banyan tree in the heart of the Datnagar agro farm in Maheshpur. A festive atmosphere swept across the district as thousands gathered around the one-kilometer-long event area, where a vibrant fair added to the excitement.
However, just before filming began, a sudden nor’wester storm struck the venue, damaging the set, lighting, and filming equipment. Rain-drenched and disappointed, many spectators began leaving, fearing the show might be cancelled.
Against all odds, the crew resumed production around midnight, working with limited resources. Filming continued until dawn, as thousands of enthusiastic viewers returned, braving muddy roads and harsh weather. Their energetic cheers turned the night into a celebration.
The episode features a folk song composed by legendary local bard Pagla Kanai, performed by Selim Chowdhury and Tasiba, with musical direction by Mehedi. Another highlight includes a melodious performance by Jhenaidah’s own Monir Khan, with lyrics by Mohammad Rafiquzzaman and composition by Kishore Das.
The show opens with a vibrant dance tribute to Jhenaidah, featuring over 100 local dancers. The song was written by Moniruzzaman Palash, voiced by Rajib and Tanzina Ruma, with choreography by Mohammad Shahin Islam and musical arrangement by Mehedi.
Following the audience quiz segment, four attendees were selected to perform in a humorous local-language drama centered on Jhenaidah’s famed bananas and betel leaves.
As always, Ityadi focused on inspiring community stories and informative features. This episode includes a segment on the Datnagar seed farm and tributes to notable figures from Jhenaidah. A moving report showcases Jahir Rayhan, a house painter turned social worker who has dedicated his life to wildlife protection and public awareness.
Beyond the region, the program also highlights the water crisis in remote hill areas of Mirsarai, Chattogram. In the international segment, viewers are taken to La Jolla Cove in California, home to the Pacific Ocean’s majestic sea lions, marking Sea Lion Day on May 30.
Several satirical sketches address current social issues such as political party name inflation, Facebook misinformation, health-sector commercialization, and everyday social behavior.
Prominent actors featured in this episode include Babul Ahmed, Abdullah Rana, Abdul Aziz, Subhashish Bhowmik, Anjumana Ara Shirin, Roki Khan, Zillur Rahman, and others. The set was designed by regular art director Mukimul Anwar Mukim.
The episode, written, hosted, and directed by Hanif Sanket, will air on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on Friday, May 30, at 8 PM, right after the Bangla news bulletin. It was produced by Fagun Audio Vision and sponsored by Keya Cosmetics Limited.
