Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that sustainable development is impossible without securing the rights of Bangladesh’s labor force, which comprises 70% of the population.

Addressing a workers’ rally organized by the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Federation at Paltan in Dhaka on Thursday to mark International Workers’ Day, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that the country’s progress cannot be achieved by neglecting the majority of its workforce.

“Seventy percent of our people are laborers. Ignoring their rights will only obstruct national prosperity,” he said. “To build a sustainable Bangladesh, a strong and fair relationship between employers and workers must be established.”

He further stated that ensuring justice and dignity for workers requires an Islamic system of governance. “The inhumane lives of our laborers must come to an end,” he added, pledging that Jamaat, if brought to power, would ensure fully secure workplaces for women across the country.

The gathering drew hundreds of participants who echoed concerns over labor rights, workplace safety, and social justice.
