Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has warned that anyone trying to manipulate the next national election will face “paralyzed hands,” pledging swift retribution for any ballot-box tampering.
Addressing an Eid-ul-Azha greetings event at Kulaura Municipality Hall in Moulvibazar on Saturday evening, Dr Rahman told a packed audience that vote rigging would not be tolerated under any circumstances. “If someone dares to steal votes, their hands will be paralyzed on the spot,” the party leader declared, drawing loud approval from supporters.
Dr Rahman argued that only morally upright scholars and religious leaders are fit to steer the country toward prosperity. “The person who stands at the mihrab to lead prayers is best suited to lead society,” he said, adding that Bangladesh could become “just and prosperous” if guided by capable Alim-Ulama.
Recalling the tenure of late Jamaat leader Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, he credited Nizami with reviving 37 shuttered industrial units in three and a half years — evidence, he claimed, of what principled religious leadership can achieve. He suggested that similar results would follow if “Bangladesh’s 41 ministries were led by competent scholars.”
The Jamaat chief denounced what he called lingering “fascism” in national politics. “We will not accept fascism here,” he said, urging Islamic forces to unite while cautioning them to stay alert to “divisive conspiracies.” He invoked the promise of a “Golden Bengal,” saying the country must avoid past mistakes and pursue genuine development.
The programme, chaired by Kulaura Upazila Jamaat Ameer Assistant Professor Abdul Muntazim, featured several senior party figures, including Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council member Md Fakhrul Islam, and Moulvibazar District Jamaat Secretary Principal Md Yameer Ali. Local journalists, student leaders, and civil-society representatives were also present.
After his speech, Dr Rahman exchanged Eid greetings with local dignitaries and fielded questions on Kulaura’s future development.
