Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the party does not consider anyone based on religion and aims to build a society rooted in friendship and equality, especially by uplifting the lives of tea workers through education and integration into modern estate management.
Speaking at a views exchange meeting with tea workers in Kulaura, Moulvibazar on Sunday (May 25), Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stressed the need to improve the lives of tea garden workers. “It may take time for you to call us, but it will not take time for us to reach you,” he assured, emphasizing that all citizens are equal stakeholders in the nation.
He added that Jamaat envisions educating tea workers and involving them in modern garden management. “We want to build a society of friendship. We do not consider anyone based on religion,” he said.
On the issue of civil rights, Dr. Rahman stated, “All citizens of this country deserve equal rights. The government must take responsibility for tea workers just like any other citizen. They are still deprived of their basic rights. If we are entrusted with power through people’s votes, we will ensure they live with dignity and support the growth of their children’s talents.”
Regarding national elections, the Jamaat Ameer mentioned that proposals to ensure free, fair, and credible elections have been presented to the Chief Adviser. He said, “We had a meeting with the Chief Adviser on Saturday where we discussed the upcoming election. He assured us that history will be made with an election where every voter will cast their vote with a smile and no one will find someone else voting in their name.”
Jamaat has submitted several proposals to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the electoral process, he added. On the issue of regional politics, Dr. Rahman also noted, “We have informed the government of our stance against granting a humanitarian corridor to India.”
The meeting was presided over by Upazila Jamaat Ameer Assistant Professor Abdul Muntajim. Other notable attendees included Jamaat’s central Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Sylhet city Ameer Md. Fakhrul Islam, district Ameer Engineer M. Sayed Ali, district secretary Principal Yameer Ali, former Upazila Ameer Khandakar Abdus Sobhan, lecturer Hamid Khan, current Upazila secretary Belal Ahmad Chowdhury, and District Chhatra Shibir President Md. Nizam Uddin.
Apart from the discussion with tea workers, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also addressed several events throughout the day — a women’s gathering in Brahmanbazar in the morning, a conference of grassroots leaders at the District Council Auditorium at noon, and separate community meetings in Shamshernagar, Sharifpur, and Hajipur in the evening.
