Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned the attack on its women leaders in Maheshpur, allegedly carried out by BNP activists.

In a statement on Monday, Jamaat’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar denounced the incident and urged the government to conduct an impartial investigation and ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.

He stated, “I strongly condemn and protest the heinous attack by BNP terrorists on Jamaat’s women leaders in Maheshpur. This incident even surpasses the violent acts of the Awami fascists before August 5 last year.”

According to Parwar, the attack took place on Sunday morning at the residence of Khairul Islam in Kullopara village, under the Bashbaria Union of Maheshpur Upazila. The women had gathered there for a discussion marking International Women’s Day. Allegedly, local BNP activists Al Amin, Jhumur, Saheb, Sohel, and Ashraful stormed the event with hammers, scissors, and bamboo sticks, physically assaulting Jamaat leader Hasina Khatun and verbally abusing the attendees.

When the women protested, they were brutally beaten, with Salema Begum reportedly struck with a bamboo stick. The attackers allegedly dragged Hasina Khatun out of the house, slapped her twice on the left ear, and forcibly removed her scarf, causing public humiliation.

Parwar further stated that the assailants issued threats before fleeing the scene. Jamaat has demanded justice and immediate action against those responsible.
