Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held protests, rallies, processions across the country, demanding the release of imprisoned leader ATM Azharul Islam and the reinstatement of the party’s registration. Speakers at these events warned of taking to the streets with public support if ATM Azharul Islam is not released.
Khulna
In the afternoon, a rally organized by Khulna Metropolitan, District Jamaat was held at the historic Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna, presided over by Khulna Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Mahfuzur Rahman. The special guest was Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a central working committee member and assistant director for the Khulna region.
The event was conducted by District Jamaat Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman , Metropolitan Assistant Secretary Sheikh Jahangir Alam. Speeches were delivered by Central Majlis-e-Shura member ,Khulna District Ameer Maulana Emran Hussain, District Naib-e-Ameer Maulana Kabirul Islam, Metropolitan Secretary Sheikh Jahangir Hossain, Batiaghata Upazila Ameer Maulana Sheikh Md. Abu Yusuf, Khulna District President of the Workers’ Welfare Federation Principal Gausul Azam, Metropolitan President Azizul Islam Farazi, several student leaders, including Khulna Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir President Arafat Hossain, Khulna District North President Abu Yusuf Fakir, District South President Abu Zar Al-Gifari.
The rally’s chief guest, Central Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar, questioned the interim government, stating that while many have been released despite false cases and so-called verdicts during Sheikh Hasina’s 17-year “dark era,” Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam remains imprisoned.
Describing judicial proceedings under Sheikh Hasina’s “fascist” rule as controversial, questionable, rejected worldwide, Mia Ghulam Parwar said that detaining ATM Azharul Islam, who was arrested during the autocratic regime, is nothing but extreme oppression and injustice. He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh seek complete liberation from tyranny urged the interim government to immediately release Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam.
Following the rally, a protest march started from Shaheed Park, passing through Picture Palace Mor, Dakbangla Mor, Ferry Ghat, Power House Mor, and concluded at Shibbari Mor.
Sylhet
In the afternoon, Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jamaat organized a rally at the city’s Registry Field, followed by a protest march. The rally was presided over by Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam , jointly conducted by Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali , District Secretary Zainal Abedin. The chief guest was Jamaat’s Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, while District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman also addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan said, “The fascist Hasina has fled the country due to the student and people’s uprising. Even the Chief Justice had to escape. The nation wants to know why political leader ATM Azharul Islam is still imprisoned based on the farcical verdicts of these so-called judicial killers. Release ATM Azharul Islam by February 20, or the interim government will be held responsible for the consequences.”
Other speakers at the protest rally included District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Abdul Hannan and Anwar Hossain, Metropolitan Naib-e-Ameer Nurul Islam Babul, Metropolitan Assistant Secretaries Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury , Islam Uddin, District Assistant Secretaries Nazrul Islam , Masuk Ahmed, former South Surma Upazila Chairman Lokman Ahmad, Principal Abdus Salam Al Madani, former Fenchuganj Upazila Chairman Saifullah Al Hossain, former Golapganj Upazila Chairman Nazmul Islam, Sylhet Metropolitan President of the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation Jamil Ahmad Raju.
Mymensingh
On Tuesday afternoon, following a rally organized by the Mymensingh District and Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami at the Railway Krishnachura Square, thousands of leaders, activists marched through the city’s main roads before concluding at Town Hall Square.
The rally was presided over by Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Maulana Kamrul Ahsan and conducted by Secretary Professor Shahidullah Kaiser. The chief guest was Motiur Rahman Akand, a member of the Bangladesh Central Executive Council, Secretary of the Publicity ,Media Division. Other speakers included District Jamaat Ameer Md. Abdul Karim, Naib-e-Ameer Principal Md. Kamrul Hasan Milon, Metropolitan Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Asaduzzaman Sohel, Secretary Maulana Mozammel Haque Akand.
Brahmanbaria
On Tuesday at around 12 PM, thousands of leaders , activists of Brahmanbaria District Jamaat-e-Islami took part in a protest march from Kautuli Mor. The procession moved through the city’s main roads and concluded at Loknath Udyan.
Earlier, at 11 AM, a rally was held in the Kautuli area, presided over by District Jamaat Ameer Golam Faruq. The chief guest was Jamaat Shura member Nazrul Islam Khadem. Other speakers included District Jamaat General Secretary Mobarak Hossain, Naib-e-Ameer Kazi Yakub Ali, Welfare Secretary Junaid Hasan, Publicity Secretary Kazi Sirajul Islam, IT Secretary Moniruzzaman, District Islami Chhatra Shibir President Hasan Mahmud.
The speakers urged the interim government to ensure the immediate release of ATM Azharul Islam and to reinstate the party’s registration, election symbol. They warned that failure to do so would lead to a call for intensified protests.
Netrakona
In the afternoon, the Netrakona District Jamaat organized a program at the old Collectorate premises in the Moktarpara area of Netrakona town. The event was presided over by District Ameer Maulana Sadeq Ahmad Haris, conducted by Maulana Mahbubur Rahman. The chief guest was Maulana Enamul Haque, a team member of the Mymensingh region and former Netrakona district Ameer.
Other speakers included District Jamaat Assistant Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain, District Ulama Division President Maulana Nurullah Bhuiyan, District Workers’ Division President Maulana Kamal Uddin, District Publicity and Media Division President Md. Zahurul Islam, Municipal Jamaat Ameer Md. Rafiqul Islam, Sadar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Wali Ullah, Kalmakanda Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Hasim. Following the rally, a protest march was held from the venue.
Rajbari
A protest rally and march were held at Rajbari Railway Azadi Maidan, organized by the Rajbari District branch of Jamaat-e-Islami, under the leadership of District Ameer Nurul Islam. Following the rally, a large protest march was held, which circled the main roads of the city, concluded at Shaheed Chattar.
The speakers at the rally included District Ameer Nurul Islam, Naib-e-Ameer Hasmat Ali Howlader, Secretary Mohammad Alimuzzaman, Sadar Upazila Ameer Maulana Syed Ahmad, among others.
Kishoreganj
On Tuesday afternoon, a protest rally and march were organized by the District Jamaat in front of the historic Shaheedi Mosque in the city. The march, which began around 2 PM, passed through the main roads of the city concluded at the city’s Boro Bazar Mor.
The rally was led by District Jamaat Ameer Md. Ramzan Ali, Naib-e-Ameer Principal Maulana Azizul Haque, Secretary Maulana Nazmul Islam, former Ameer Principal Tayebuzzaman, Professor Mosaddak Bhuiyan, Assistant Secretary Shamsul Alam, Jamaat leader Maulana Azharul Islam, Kazi Saifulha, North Dhaka Metropolitan Jamaat Majlis-e-Shura member Md. Rokon Reza. Other leaders included District Jamaat Working Committee member Professor Azizul Haque, City Jamaat Ameer Maulana A.M.M. Abdul Haque, Sadar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Qari Nazrul Islam, President of the District Workers’ Welfare Federation Khaled Hasan, District Chhatra Shibir President Hasan Al Mamun.
Naogaon
In the afternoon, a protest rally was held at the Newjoan Field in Naogaon city. After the rally, a protest march was taken out by Jamaat workers, supporters, which passed through the main roads of the city and ended at Mukti Mor.
The rally was chaired by Central Majlis-e-Shura member and District Jamaat Ameer Kh. M. Abdur Rakib. Other speakers included District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Enamul Haque, Professor Mohiuddin, Secretary A.S.M. Sayem, Assistant Secretary Nasir Uddin.
Sunamganj
At around 2 PM, Jamaat leaders , activists held a protest march starting from the historic Museum area in Sunamganj Municipality. The march culminated at Alfath Square, where a rally was held. The rally was chaired by District Jamaat Ameer Tofayel Ahmed Khan, with Assistant Secretary Nurul Alam conducting the event. Other speakers included District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Md. Shamsuddin, Momtazul Hasan, Sadar Upazila Ameer Mohammad Ali, Municipal Jamaat Ameer Abdus Shattar Md. Mamun, District Chhatra Shibir President Mehedi Hasan.
Joypurhat
At around 3:30 PM, a rally was held at Shaheed Dr. Abul Kashem Maidan in Joypurhat city. Afterward, a protest march was held, which passed through the main roads and returned to Shaheed Dr. Abul Kashem Maidan.
In the rally, District Jamaat Ameer Fazlur Rahman stated, “ATM Azharul Islam is imprisoned on false charges. We demand his unconditional release. Many similar cases have been filed, and we call on the government to resolve them swiftly.”
Other speakers included District Secretary Golam Kibria, Assistant Secretaries Hasibul Alam Liton, S.M. Rashedul Alam, City Jamaat Ameer Anwar Hossain, and Sadar Upazila Ameer Imran Hossain.
Panchagarh
In the afternoon, a protest rally was held at the Freedom Stage of Sher-e-Bangla Park in the district town of Panchagarh, organized by the district branch of Jamaat-e-Islami. Leaders, activists from Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir, other associated organizations gathered in smaller groups. The rally was chaired by District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Mofiz Uddin, with District Ameer Iqbal Hossain, Secretary Delwar Hossain, Board Upazila Working Committee member Safiullah Sufi, President of District Workers’ Welfare Federation Abul Bashar Basunia, Panchagarh City Jamaat Ameer Zainal Abedin, and President of District Islami Chhatra Shibir Zulfiqar Rahman addressing the gathering. The event was conducted by Panchagarh City Jamaat Secretary Nasir Uddin.
Kushtia
At 3 PM, a large rally was organized by Kushtia District Jamaat, starting from Choudhahas Mor in the city. The march, which covered nearly three kilometers, concluded with a brief gathering in front of the municipality. District Jamaat Ameer Professor Maulana Abul Hashem presided over the event, with speeches from AKM Ali Mohsin, a team member of the Kusthia-Jashore region, Central Shura member Professor Forhad Hossain, District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Abdul Gafur, Secretary Suzauddin Joaddar, City Ameer Enamul Haque.
Comilla
At 3 PM, a protest rally and gathering were organized by Comilla Metropolitan Jamaat at Town Hall ground. The keynote speech was delivered by Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer , former Member of Parliament Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher. He stated, “ATM Azharul Islam was sentenced to death by a former fascist government through false charges, fabricated witnesses, a bogus trial. After the country became free from fascism, we had to launch a movement for his release. This is our utmost misfortune. Either release ATM Azharul Islam or step down.”
A pre-rally gathering was held in Comilla, chaired by Comilla Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Kazi Deen Mohammad. The event featured speeches from Comilla South District Jamaat Ameer Mohammad Shahjahan, North District Jamaat Ameer Professor Abdul Matin, Metropolitan Naib-e-Ameer Mohammad Mosleh Uddin. Following the gathering, a protest march commenced from Town Hall, parading through the main roads of the city.
Gazipur
At 10:30 AM, a protest rally was held at Shivbari Mor in Gazipur city, organized by the district and city Jamaat. The rally proceeded along the Joydebpur-Dhaka road, ending at Chandna Chaurasta around 11:30 AM. The rally was chaired by Professor Moha. Jamal Uddin, with the central executive council member, Professor Muhammad Ijjat Ullah, as the chief guest. Other speakers included central Majlish-e-Shura member Abul Hashem, district Ameer Jahangir Alam, city Naib-e-Ameer Khairul Hasan, several others.
Dinajpur
At 10:00 AM, a protest gathering was held at the Institute field in Dinajpur city. After the meeting, a protest procession toured different areas of the city. The meeting was chaired by Dinajpur district Jamaat’s Ameer, Professor Anisur Rahman. The central executive council member, Professor Mamataz Uddin, was the chief guest. Other speakers included former district Ameer Aftab Uddin Mollah, central Majlish-e-Shura member Anowarul Islam, district Secretary Enamul Haque, city Jamaat Ameer Sirajus Salehin, among others.
Natore
A protest was held from morning until afternoon at Madrasah Mor in Natore, organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami district branch. Leaders, activists marched from Madrasah Mor to Chayabani Mor and then returned to Madrasah Mor. Before the procession, a rally took place where speakers demanded the release of ATM Azharul Islam by February 20, warning of tougher protests if the demand is not met. Speakers included district Ameer Mir Noorul Islam, Naib-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain, Yunus Ali, district Secretary Sadekul Islam.
Bhola
At 3:00 PM, a large protest was held at the Kabir Mosque courtyard in Bhola city, chaired by district Jamaat Ameer Md. Zakir Hossain. The rally included speeches by Naib-e-Ameer Professor Nazirul Islam, Secretary Md. Harun Ur Rashid, other local leaders from the district, upazila, municipality. After the speeches, several hundred leaders, activists joined the protest procession, which toured Bhola city and ended in front of Hatkhola Mosque.
Chapainawabganj
At 5:00 PM, a protest march started from the Chapainawabganj Municipal Area. The procession moved through various city streets and ended at Shantimor. Before the march, a rally was held in the municipal area, where district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abu-Zar-Gifari chaired the event, speeches were given by central executive council member Rofiqul Islam, former municipal mayor, Jamaat leader Nazrul Islam.
Bagerhat
In the afternoon, a procession started from Megnitala, moving along the Khulna-Bagerhat regional highway through various locations like Dashani, Sonatala, in front of the District Commissioner’s office, VIP Mor, Mithapukur, other main roads in the city. Thousands of activists participated in the procession, carrying placards demanding the unconditional release of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam. Earlier, at 3:00 PM, a rally was held at Megnitala Bazaar, chaired by district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim. The rally featured speeches by central Majlish-e-Shura member Maulana Mashurur Rahman Khan and district leaders, including Maulana Sheikh Abdul Wadud (Naib-e-Ameer), district Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Yunus, Assistant Secretary Professor Iqbal Hossain, several other key figures like Mizanur Rahman Mallik, Mostain Billah, Abdul Alim, Sheikh Manjurul Haque, local leaders from the student wing, Chhatra Shibir.
Satkhira
The rally at Satkhira Government College grounds was held in the afternoon, presided over by Satkhira Jamaat Ameer Shahidul Islam conducted by Secretary Maulana Azizur Rahman. The event featured speeches by central Shura member and former district Ameer of Satkhira, Muhaddis Rabbiul Bashar, former Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam, district Naib-e-Ameer Sheikh Nurul Huda, Mahmudul Haque, Assistant Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, other local leaders. Chhatra Shibir’s city president Al Mamun, district president Imamul Hossain also addressed the gathering, along with leaders from various upazilas.
Gopalganj
In the afternoon, a large procession with over a thousand participants took place at the Launchghat area of Gopalganj. The rally started from the Model Mosque and traversed various roads of the city before returning to the same spot. The event was organized by the Gopalganj district Jamaat, speeches were delivered by Gopalganj district Jamaat Ameer Rezaul Karim, former Ameer Maulana Abdul Hamid, central leader Professor Azmal Hossain. The rally also focused on demanding the release of ATM Azharul Islam.
Faridpur
In the afternoon, a large protest rally was held starting from the Model Mosque at the Old Bus Stand, with thousands of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, activists participating, carrying placards, banners. The procession, stretching for about one kilometer, covered the main roads of the city and ended at the Court premises. Prior to the rally, a meeting was organized by the Faridpur district Jamaat at the Old Bus Stand, where speakers demanded the release of ATM Azharul Islam. The meeting was presided over by district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Muhammad Badruddin, with Secretary Professor Abdul Wahab managing the session. Notable speakers included Central Working Council member Mohammad Delwar Hossain, Central Shura member Samsul Islam Al Barati, Central Working Council member Abdut Tawab, District Jamaat’s Nayeb Ameer Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed, Nayeb Ameer Abu Haris Mollah, Sadar Upazila Jamaat Nayeb Ameer Jasim Uddin.
Narayanganj
In the afternoon, a protest rally organized by the district and city Jamaat-e-Islami began at Khanpur , proceeded through the main areas of the city, eventually ending at Chasara Balur Maath. Before the rally, a protest meeting was held in the Khanpur area, where the main guest, Central Working Council member Moinuddin Ahmed, delivered a speech. The meeting was chaired by the Ameer of Narayanganj City Jamaat, Abdul Jabbar, with the city’s Secretary Manowar Hossain, District Ameer Mominul Haque, District Secretary Mohammad Hafizur Rahman also present.
Sherpur
On Tuesday afternoon, at 3 PM, a protest meeting was held at the Raghunath Bazaar Thana intersection in Sherpur city, chaired by Maulana Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, Ameer of Sherpur District Jamaat. The main guest was Rasheduel Islam, former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir. Other speakers included Mohammad Nuruzzaman Badal, Secretary of Sherpur District Jamaat, former Debate Secretary of Chhatra Shibir Golam Kibria, Fardin Hasan, Secretary of Gazipur City Workers Welfare Federation, former Secretary of Sherpur District Jamaat Abdul Baten, City Branch President Nurul Amin, Ashrafuzzaman, President of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Sherpur District. After the meeting, a large protest procession started from the Raghunath Bazaar Thana intersection and passed through major roads of the city, concluding at Nowhata Khwarpara intersection.
Bogra
In the afternoon, at around 3:30 PM, a joint protest rally was organized by the district and city branches of Jamaat-e-Islami from Edward Municipal Park in Bogra city. The procession covered the entire city, causing the area to nearly come to a standstill. After the rally, a meeting was held with central executive council member, Professor Shahabuddin, as the chief guest. He spoke about Jamaat-e-Islami being persecuted under the rule of Awami fascism for over 15 years, with numerous leaders and activists killed, imprisoned. He also highlighted that six months had passed since the struggles of the student and public movement in July-August, but Jamaat’s registration, symbol had not been restored, Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam had not been released.
After the protest, a meeting was held, where Professor Abidur Rahman, Ameer of Bogura City Jamaat, presided. Golam Rabbani, the central vice-president of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation, was the special guest. Several leaders from both the city and district Jamaat spoke, including Maulana Alamgir Hossain, Professor Abdul Bashed, Maulana Abdul Halim Beg, Maulana Abdul Hakim Sarkar, Maulana Mansurur Rahman, Professor ASM Abdul Malek. The meeting addressed the ongoing struggles and the call for the release of ATM Azharul Islam.
