Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has regained its registration as a political party after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court delivered a verdict in its favor on Sunday.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued the ruling in the morning, restoring the party’s registration that had been previously canceled.
The verdict follows the completion of hearings on May 14 regarding Jamaat’s appeal to regain its official registration and electoral symbol. The court had scheduled Sunday to deliver its judgment.
Jamaat’s registration had been revoked in earlier legal proceedings, barring the party from contesting elections under its own name or symbol. The recent ruling clears a major legal hurdle for the party ahead of the next national elections.
