Jamaat-e-Islami has recommended that no political party chief should be eligible to assume the role of Prime Minister, raising the proposal during a dialogue with the National Consensus Commission on Sunday.

The proposal came during a meeting held at 10:30 am between Jamaat-e-Islami and the Consensus Commission. Speaking during a press briefing at the break, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher revealed the party’s position.

“We have suggested that the position of Prime Minister should be kept separate from that of the party leadership to prevent the concentration of power,” said Dr. Taher.

In the same meeting, the party raised concerns regarding the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), labeling it as corrupt and ineffective. Jamaat proposed establishing a new oversight body to monitor the ACC’s activities and recommend punitive action against officials involved in corruption.

“The public believes that the ACC itself is compromised. Therefore, we propose forming a watchdog-style commission that will ensure transparency and accountability within the anti-corruption framework,” he added.

The meeting was attended by a 10-member delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as National Consensus Commission Vice Chairman Dr. Ali Riaz and other commission members. The dialogue is scheduled to continue until 5 pm.
