The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has applied for party registration with the Election Commission, requesting the ‘Shapla’ (water lily) as its official symbol.
Additionally, the party has called for the restructuring of the AMM Nasir Uddin-led Election Commission.
On Sunday, the final day for registration applications, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain submitted the application along with required documents at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
The delegation led by Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patowary, included Northern Zone Coordinator Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, Joint Chief Coordinator Arifur Rahman Tuhin, and approximately 50 party leaders and activists.
The delegation arrived at the Nirbachan Bhaban around 4:00 pm and submitted the application at the designated desk on the second floor.
In a briefing at approximately 4:30 pm, Akhtar Hossain said, “We have submitted the application to the Election Commission officials with all necessary documents meeting the registration requirements. We have requested the ‘Shapla’ symbol for the NCP.”
While the application listed three symbols, Hossain expressed confidence that the Shapla would be allocated.
Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patowary noted that the party also proposed ‘pen’ and ‘mobile’ as alternative symbols but emphasised their preference for Shapla.
He expressed optimism about securing registration and predicted a decisive victory with the Shapla symbol in the upcoming election.
Patowary claimed that NCP could win 300 of the 400 seats proposed by the National Consensus Commission and Reforms Commission, potentially forming the government.
Addressing the Election Commission’s restructure, Patowary reiterated, “We continue to demand the restructuring of the current Election Commission. It must be restructured, and it will be. There is no alternative.”
