A student of Jagannath University named Jubaid Hossain was stabbed to death in Old Dhaka on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 6pm while Jubaid was on his way to give private tuition.

His body was later found inside the residence of his student on Pani Pump Lane in Armanitola, confirmed Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police Station.

“He was killed in a knife attack. The flat where his body was recovered is the same place where he used to teach,” said the OC. “The motive behind the murder is still unknown. We are investigating the incident.”

Jubaid was a student of the Department of Statistics (Session 2019–20) at Jagannath University.

Originally from Cumilla, he served as the president of the Cumilla District Student Welfare Association and was also a member of the convening committee of the JnU unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

JnU Proctor Professor Muhammad Tajammul Haque expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “We have heard about his death, but the cause is still unclear. This is deeply tragic. We have asked police to review CCTV footage, and I am heading to the scene.”
