Journalist Anis Alamgir has been formally arrested under an anti-terrorism case and is being presented before the court by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.
Shafiqul Islam, head of the Detective Branch, said to the media on Monday that Alamgir would be produced in court shortly.
The case was filed at Uttara West Police Station in Dhaka by Aryan Ahmed, central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, accusing Alamgir, actress Meher Afroze Shawon, and two others of conspiring to undermine the stability of the state under the country’s anti-terrorism law.
Alamgir had previously been taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch office on Sunday night for questioning in connection with the case.
According to the DB chief, the journalist has now been formally shown as arrested in relation to the complaint.
