Jagannath University (JnU) students have begun gathering on campus this morning to launch a long march toward the residence of the chief adviser, demanding housing allowances and approval of the proposed full budget without cuts.

From 10:00 AM Wednesday, JnU students started assembling on campus for the “Long March to Jamuna” program. The protest aims to press forward three key demands, including guaranteed accommodation grants and immediate approval of the university’s full proposed budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

The demonstrators are scheduled to depart for the chief adviser’s residence in Jamuna at 11:30 AM. The initiative is being led by “Julai Oikya,” an alliance of active political, cultural, and social student organizations on campus.

On Tuesday, a delegation of students and faculty members visited the University Grants Commission (UGC), but failing to receive a satisfactory response, they declared the long march.

The students’ three demands are:

A housing stipend for 70% of JnU students starting from FY 2025–26 until proper accommodations are ensured.

Approval of the university’s full proposed budget without any reductions.

Immediate approval and prioritization of the second campus project in the next ECNEC meeting.
