Zakaria Hotel’s bar (located in Mohakhali) was vandalised and two women were physically assaulted on Wednesday night. Monir Hossain, convener of Banani Thana Jubo Dal, reportedly led the attack, confirmed Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Russell Sarwar.
A disturbing video circulating widely on social media shows the hotel bar being vandalised by a large group while a group of 8–10 men assaulted two women as they tried to escape the chaos. One woman was seen being struck and falling down the stairs, while the other was chased, dragged, and beaten. Their cries for help can be clearly heard in the footage.
Following public outrage, Jubo Dal expelled Monir and cancelled his membership. The party also instructed its members to cut all ties with him and demanded that law enforcement take immediate legal action.
Zakaria Hotel authorities have filed a case, but no arrests have been made as of Thursday evening. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner S N Md Nazrul Islam said a manhunt is underway and that the investigation is ongoing.
The video has sparked widespread condemnation online, with calls for justice and accountability.
