Bangladesh will observe a day of state mourning on July 16 (Wednesday) to commemorate July Martyrs’ Day.
In this regard, the Cabinet Division announced the decision in a gazette notification issued on Tuesday.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational institutions — as well as all government and private buildings across the country and Bangladeshi missions abroad — will fly the national flag at half-mast on the day.
As part of the observance, special prayers will be held in mosques across the country.
On July 2 last, the Cabinet Division issued a separate notification officially declaring 16 July as July Martyrs’ Day to be observed annually.
In the government’s commemorative calendar, the day has been categorised as a “Category B” observance.
