July uprising martyr’s daughter sexually assaulted by group

In a shocking incident reported from Dumki upazila in Patuakhali, the teenage daughter of a martyr from the recent anti-discrimination student-public movement in Dhaka has allegedly been sexually assaulted. The 17-year-old victim, whose father was killed during police firing in the protests, was reportedly abducted from the street and assaulted by a group of individuals.

According to the victim and police sources, the incident occurred in the evening after the teenager visited her father’s grave in Ward No. 5 of Pangashia union. While she was on her way to her maternal home in Ward No. 1 of the same union, the accused allegedly followed her from Naldoyani. They then forcibly took her to a nearby garden owned by Jalil Munshi, where the assault took place. The victim has also accused the perpetrators of threatening to circulate explicit images of her on social media.

The victim filed a formal complaint at Dumki Police Station on Wednesday. Following initial investigations, she was referred to the One Stop Crisis Center at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.

When contacted, Dumki Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain confirmed that a case has been filed in connection with the incident. He stated that while one suspect has been arrested, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other accused. Further investigations are underway to ensure justice for the victim.
