The government has removed Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar from the High Court over allegations of collusion with the ousted Awami League authoritarian government.

The Law Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday based on recommendations made by the Supreme Judicial Council.

As per the notification, he has been removed in accordance with the Section 96(6), which has been restored in the constitution following the downfall of Awami League regime.

On 16 October last year, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed sent 12 justices of the High Court on leave over allegations of corruption and involvement in Awami League’s autocratic activities.

Later, the apex court’s Supreme Judicial Council, revived after the fascist regime’s downfall, launched a probe into the allegations against Justice Khurshid Alam.

On 27 August this year, the Council summoned Khurshid to quiz him regarding the allegations.
