On the first day of Ramadan, the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate launched an operation in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, to monitor and control the prices of essential commodities. The raid began at 11:30 AM on Sunday, March 2, at the Kitchen Market in Karwan Bazar.
The operation is being led by Mohammad Alim Aktar Khan, the Director-General of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate. During the raid, shopkeepers raised concerns about a shortage of soybean oil, stating that several companies were not supplying the product. The Director-General inquired about the reasons behind the soybean oil shortage and sought details on which companies were failing to provide the oil. He also asked for information on the quantity of oil being supplied by companies dealers.
The operation was attended by other officials from the Directorate, representatives from the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), other relevant departments, organizations. The initiative aims to ensure fair pricing and availability of essential goods during the holy month of Ramadan.
