Khaleda Zia calls for unity in building the nation with love

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has urged for nation-building based on love, not revenge or hostility, while expressing her unwavering support for the people despite being in the UK for medical treatment.

Speaking virtually from London at an extended meeting of her party on Thursday afternoon, Khaleda Zia emphasized the importance of unity and democratic restoration. She acknowledged the sacrifices made by those who had fought against fascism, and paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives during the brutal repression in July and August. She also expressed deep sympathy for the injured.

Khaleda Zia reflected on the past 15 years of struggle for democracy, mentioning the many lives lost, the wrongful imprisonments, and the ongoing legal battles for justice. She reiterated that the sacrifices made by the party’s leaders and activists would be remembered not just by the party but by the entire nation.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states that, she further called for the urgent reform of the state and a return to a democratic system, appealing for a free and fair election that would be acceptable to all parties. Zia stressed that the country is facing a critical time and urged the interim government to quickly carry out necessary reforms and ensure a legitimate, transparent electoral process. Despite being abroad for medical reasons, she reaffirmed her commitment to the people and their struggle for democracy.
