BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has extended Eid-ul-Azha greetings to the people of Bangladesh, as well as to BNP leaders, activists, and supporters at home and abroad.
She also sought prayers from all for her well-being, said her personal physician Prof AZM Zahid Hossain.
According to Zahid, Khaleda Zia will observe Eid at her Gulshan residence ‘Feroza’, where sacrificial animals will be offered in keeping with the traditions of the festival.
In addition to sacrifices at her residence in Dhaka, Khaleda Zia’s family will also offer sacrifices in Gabtoli, Bogura, while BNP leaders and workers will arrange sacrifices in her name in various districts across the country.
Khaleda Zia’s sister Selina Rahman, younger brother Shamim Eskandhar, and other close relatives currently in Dhaka will join her at Feroza to exchange Eid greetings and celebrate the day together. The BNP chief will have lunch with her family members during the Eid gathering.
Meanwhile, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman observed Eid-ul-Azha in London, where the festival is being celebrated today. He performed Eid prayers at an Eidgah in London alongside party leaders and activists.
Tarique Rahman spoke to his mother on the phone on Eid morning, extending greetings to her. Khaleda Zia also conversed with her daughter-in-law and granddaughters during the call.
Tarique Rahman is celebrating Eid with his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, and family members of his late younger brother Arafat Rahman Coco, including Coco’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman and their daughters Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman.
Dr Zubaida Rahman left Dhaka on Thursday and arrived in London in the early hours of Friday. Syeda Shamila Rahman had returned to London about a week and a half ago.
Khaleda Zia returned to Dhaka on May 6, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, after completing a two-and-a-half-month treatment stay in London.
Earlier, she had celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence in London — her first Eid abroad in more than a decade and a half — in a private family gathering.
