BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is set to return to Bangladesh on May 5 aboard a special air ambulance sent by Qatar’s Emir, bypassing regular commercial flights.
Khaleda Zia, who has been undergoing medical treatment in London, will arrive in Dhaka in a royal air ambulance dispatched by the Qatari royal family. Her daughters-in-law—Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, and Syeda Shamila Rahman, wife of late Arafat Rahman Coco—will accompany her on the journey.
According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government of Bangladesh formally requested the Qatari authorities to arrange special air transport for the ailing political leader. After a series of diplomatic discussions, the decision was finalized on Saturday evening, and the aircraft has already been sent to London.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed the development, stating that extensive preparations have been made to welcome their party chief. A joint meeting was held with leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan BNP and its affiliated wings to coordinate the reception plans.
Upon her arrival, party activists will line the streets from the airport to her Gulshan residence, Firoza, waving party flags in one hand and offering greetings with the other. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have initiated multi-layered security arrangements to ensure her safe return.
