In a tragic incident in Bogura’s Sherpur upazila, a 60-year-old ‘kobiraj’ named Akbar Ali was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants on the night of March 22. He was lured out of his home with a phone call and later found bloodied on the road. Police are investigating the matter, and the prime suspect, Abdul Latif, is reportedly on the run.

The incident occurred in the Charmatha area, near the Dhormokam graveyard, around 9 PM when Akbar Ali, a resident of Shahbandegi Union, was called out of his home on the pretext of work. After leaving his house, neighbors later found him lying in a pool of blood on the road and immediately informed his family. Akbar was rushed to the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Upon further investigation, Akbar’s son Shah Jamal and neighbors discovered a mobile phone and his shawl near the crime scene. The phone call made to Akbar was traced back to Abdul Latif, the Vice President of the Ward Workers League and the son of Osman Ali from the Dhormokam South area.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Sherpur police, led by Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam, have initiated a probe into the murder. A sharp weapon, the victim’s mobile phone, and his shawl were recovered from the scene. However, Abdul Latif and his family members have gone into hiding, and law enforcement is working to apprehend them. The investigation is ongoing.
