At least 14 people, including two children, a woman, and eleven men, were killed in a devastating fire that broke out at a hotel in the central Burrabazar area of Kolkata, India.
A massive fire engulfed a hotel in the Mechhua Fruit Market area of Burrabazar, central Kolkata, on Monday, leaving 14 people dead. Among the deceased were two minors, one woman, and eleven adult males, according to local authorities.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma stated that the incident occurred at Rituraj Hotel, located nearly 8 kilometers from the city center. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and recovered all 14 bodies from the site. A special investigation team has been formed to probe the cause of the fire, though no official reason has been confirmed yet.
Central Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar has urged the state administration to take immediate measures for the rescue and support of those affected. He also stressed the urgent need for stricter monitoring of fire safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as the city mourns yet another deadly incident that raises serious concerns over urban fire safety compliance.
