KUET students re-enter campus after 52 days

Over 150 students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) entered their campus together around 3pm on Sunday without any obstruction, despite the presence of a large number of police at the gate.

After returning to the campus for the first time in about 52 days, the students gathered in front of the administrative building, demanding the reopening of the residential halls.

Around 3:45pm, a group of faculty members met with the students and explained that academic activities and hall reopening were not possible without a Syndicate meeting.

Earlier, students had announced their intention to re-enter the closed Kuet campus, defying the administration’s restrictions.

In response, the Kuet authorities deployed additional police at the main gate and took various preventive measures, leading to a tense situation.

From 2pm on Sunday, students began gathering at the main entrance. Eventually, after discussions between teachers and students, the students were allowed to enter the campus upon verification of their ID cards.

Notably, a clash broke out on February 18 on the Kuet campus amid disputes over the demand to ban student politics. More than 100 students were injured during the incident.

Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that on February 25, the authorities declared all academic activities and residential halls closed until further notice.

For the past few days, students had been announcing on social media that they would re-enter the campus and move into the halls at 2pm on April 13.
