Kushtia district election office set on fire

A fire incident occurred at the office of the Senior District Election Officer in Kushtia on Saturday morning. Officials confirmed that the fire started in a room of the office building at approximately 8:30am and was swiftly extinguished.

Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Hossain visited the election office at around 9:30am and subsequently conducted a closed-door meeting with concerned officials and employees at about 10:00am.

Office officials and staff claimed that the fire was ignited through a rear window of the building. Security guard Razzak stated that he was on the second floor during the incident and upon sensing smoke and the smell of burning, went downstairs and discovered the fire.

Accord Md Asaduzzaman, accountant of the District Election Office, the room where the fire occurred was the store room of the Sadar Upazila Election Office, which contained important voter data related to the Kushtia-3 constituency.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jasim Uddin told the Daily Sun that the scene had been inspected and the Deputy Commissioner had also visited the site.

He said investigations are underway to determine how the fire occurred and who may have been involved. Details will be shared after the investigation is completed.

He added that no important documents were damaged in the fire.
