Bangladesh skipper Litton Das admitted his team’s shortcomings across all departments—batting, bowling, and fielding—following a crushing 37-run defeat to Pakistan in the opening T20I of the series.

After an early breakthrough that saw Pakistan lose two wickets for just five runs within the first eight deliveries, Bangladesh seemed poised for a strong performance. However, the bowlers failed to maintain pressure, allowing the hosts to post a commanding total of over 200 runs—something Litton openly acknowledged as a key failure.

Despite a brisk start from Tanzid Hasan in the chase, Bangladesh quickly lost momentum. Litton anchored the innings with a promising 48 off 12 overs but was dismissed at a critical moment. What followed was a collapse, with the team losing 8 wickets for just 64 runs, ultimately folding 37 runs short of the target.

“It’s definitely disappointing,” said Litton during the post-match presentation. “Throughout the match, we didn’t bat well, bowl well, or field well. I’m not making excuses, but we must bounce back strongly. There are still two matches left.”

Highlighting the importance of consistent performance, Litton added, “It’s not just about batting or bowling—we have to improve our fielding too. In fast-paced games like this, fielding makes a big difference. At the moment, we’re not doing well in that area.”

He also emphasized that the pitch was good for batting and believed that chasing 200 was not impossible. “This is a very fast-scoring ground with a good batting wicket. Even in the middle overs, we didn’t bat well. We need to show more strength and fight,” he said.

Praising middle-order batter Jaker Ali for his lone resistance at the end, Litton noted, “Jaker has been playing really well over the past year. He’s an important player for us right now. But one player alone can’t win a match—we all need to contribute.”

Bangladesh will aim to level the series when they face Pakistan again at the same venue on Friday in the second T20I.
