A low-pressure area is likely to develop over the North Bay on 24 July, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said this morning (20 July).

Meanwhile, the depression over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas has weakened and merged with the monsoon axis, according to the met office.

The monsoon trough currently extends from Rajasthan through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam, crossing the northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs reaches into the North Bay. The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.

In a 24-hour forecast starting from 9am today, the BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are expected at most places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Rain is also likely at many places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions and at a few places in Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy falls may occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet.

Day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over Khulna and Barishal divisions but are expected to fall by 1-2°C in other parts of the country. Night temperatures may decrease slightly across the country.

Maritime ports have been advised to lower the cautionary signal as weather conditions improve temporarily.

Sylhet recorded the highest rainfall in the country over the past 24 hours, with 114 mm until 6am today. Rajshahi registered the highest temperature at 36°C till 6pm yesterday, while Bandarban recorded the lowest at 24°C till 6am today.
