French President Emmanuel Macron has called for stronger measures against Russia following a deadly missile strike in Ukraine’s Sumy city that killed at least 34 civilians, including children, and injured around 100 others.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has once again shaken the global conscience, as a devastating Russian missile attack struck the northeastern city of Sumy. According to an AFP report on Monday, the strike left 34 civilians dead and nearly 100 injured.
In response, President Emmanuel Macron issued a strong statement on Sunday via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), condemning the attack and urging immediate international action.
“Everyone knows Russia started this war,” Macron stated. “And today, it is Russia alone that continues it, with blatant disregard for human life, international law, and diplomatic efforts.”
Calling the strike “a humanitarian tragedy,” Macron emphasized the need for decisive action to compel Russia into a ceasefire. He described his position as not merely political, but a moral stand driven by the urgency to protect innocent lives.
Liberty News’ international correspondent reports that the Sumy attack is among the deadliest in recent weeks and has intensified calls from Western leaders to hold Moscow accountable for continued aggression in Ukraine.
