A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Sumaiya Jafrin, wife of Major Sadik, on a five-day remand over allegations of involvement in a secret meeting and training of banned Awami League leaders and activists.

‎Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order after police produced her before the court and sought a seven-day remand.

‎Earlier on Wednesday (6 August), Sumaiya was detained by the detective branch of police from the Mirpur area of the capital over alleged participation alongside her husband, Major Sadik, in a secret meeting at KB Convention Center in the Vatara area in Dhaka.

‎The meeting reportedly involved government officials as well as banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League activists and took place on 8 July from 10am to 6pm.

‎Following the incident, a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on 13 July with Vatara Police Station.
