Man arrested for harassing woman on Mirpur footpath

A man has been arrested by the police for harassing a woman on the footpath of Mirpur-10 after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

On Tuesday, March 26, police in Mirpur arrested a man who was caught on video harassing a woman on a footpath near a street vendor in the Mirpur-10 area. The incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, showed the woman being slapped, verbally abused, and dragged by the man, while bystanders accused her of theft.

According to Mirpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Ruman, the altercation occurred when the woman got into an argument with a street vendor while buying shoes. The dispute escalated when the man became violent and started physically assaulting the woman. The video, which lasts for 1 minute and 16 seconds, shows the woman trying to break free as the man accosts her.

After the video spread on social media, many people demanded justice for the woman. Following the uproar, the accused was taken into custody by police on Tuesday afternoon. The woman was also called to the police station to give her statement. The police stated that once the woman decides whether to pursue legal action, further steps will be taken against the perpetrator.
