A Netrakona court has sentenced a man to death for the 2022 murder of a garment worker in Durgapur upazila of the district.
The verdict was delivered on Sunday by District and Sessions Judge Md Hafizur Rahman in the presence of the convict, Nizam Uddin (33), son of Chan Mia from Ajia village under Purbadhola upazila.
Along with the death sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on Nizam.
According to case details, Kamla Khatun (26), a garment worker from Durgapur, went missing on November 18, 2022, after leaving her residence in the Millgate area of Tongi, Gazipur. The following day, her body was discovered in Baluchara Bazar under Khalisaura Union of Purbadhola upazila.
Her brother later filed a murder case with Purbadhola Police Station, prompting an investigation that led to Nizam Uddin’s arrest. After a thorough investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court on August 31, 2023.
Following the examination of 11 witnesses and related evidence, the court found Nizam guilty of the crime and handed down the capital punishment.
