Many government advisers, serving as de facto ministers in the interim administration, have made arrangements for the “ultimate well-being” with support from certain political parties, and are plotting their “safe exit,” Nahid Islam, a key leader of last year’s uprising, has alleged.
These advisers have “betrayed” the participants of last year’s anti-fascist uprising, the NCP convener alleged, while giving an interview to a private TV channel. “When the time comes, we will make their names public,” he warned.
The advisers think that “support from political parties” has kept them in power.
While it is true that the political parties have created various obstacles for the interim government, the advisers have broken the trust of the uprising leaders and participants, Nahid claimed.
“It was a mistake on our part to trust many of those who became advisers. We should have strengthened the student leadership and gone into government collectively. We trusted the civil society and political parties — but in reality, we were betrayed by them.”
The former adviser added that many advisers had either served their own interests or betrayed the spirit of the mass uprising.
In response to a question on whether it was a mistake to appoint student leaders as advisers, Nahid said, “Without the presence of students in the government, it wouldn’t have survived even three months.” He added, “During the first six months, there were continuous efforts to overthrow the government and instigate counter-revolutionary movements. Even now, such conspiracies occasionally resurface — they are still ongoing.”
The NCP leader further said that if a national government had been formed instead of one led by civil society representatives, there would have been no such regret. “Had the political parties agreed to form a national government jointly with the civil society, this responsibility would not have fallen on the shoulders of the students. But due to historical and circumstantial necessity, we had to take that responsibility,” he said.
