Protesters gathered in Shahbagh on Saturday demanding Dr. Muhammad Yunus be appointed the next President of Bangladesh, alongside calls for constitutional reforms and the formation of a national government.

Under the banner of “People from All Walks of Life,” a group of demonstrators organized a program titled ‘March for Yunus’ in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh on May 24, starting at 3:30 PM. The rally was held to demand the appointment of Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus as President and the establishment of a national government.

Participants voiced three additional demands: constitutional reform, the trial of the Awami League for what they termed the “July Massacre,” and a five-year governance term for Dr. Yunus.

Addressing political parties, the demonstrators said, “Sit together, discuss, and take your time. If needed, remove the controversial president quickly and nominate Dr. Yunus to form a strong interim government. Elections must follow only after the trial of the Awami League is completed.”

Chanting slogans like “Yunus, unite the nation, save Bangladesh,” the protesters urged unity and accountability.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur confirmed the gathering, stating, “The protest is organized by people from Inkibal Manch. The crowd is small, and the situation remains under control.”
