In a show of support for a total shutdown in Bogura’s Dhunat, Awami League leaders and activists held a torch procession, donning masks. The march took place in the town’s Zero Point area on Monday night.

The procession began in front of Dhunat Model Mosque and proceeded through the Zero Point area before ending at the Four-story area on Gosai Badi Road. However, the procession was interrupted when BNP leaders and activists chased the Awami League members, causing the rally to disperse.

According to several anonymous Awami League leaders, the torch procession was organized to express solidarity with the strike. Following the march, BNP activists reportedly attacked the homes of some Awami League leaders, including Al-Amin Tarofdar, Joint Convener of the town’s Awami League, and youth leaders from Sadarpara, Bani Amin Mintu, and student leader Rabir.

In response, the Dhunat Upazila BNP president, AKM Touhidul Alam Mamun, accused Awami League leaders of attempting to create chaos by organizing the torch procession. However, he denied reports of any attacks on the homes of Awami League members and claimed that the local people had prevented any violence.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that, Dhunat Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Saidul Alam, also confirmed that there were no reports of attacks on Awami League homes, and assured that the situation is now under control with calm prevailing in the area.
