Staff Correspondent: A protest rally was held in Bogura condemning the killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur. Speakers said the current government has completely failed to maintain law and order in the country. They pointed out that the authorities failed to ensure the safety of Tuhin in Gazipur and journalist Nazrul Islam Doya, who was attacked in Bogura.
They also accused the police of negligence, calling it a crime in itself. “The masterminds behind Tuhin’s murder remain at large. Gazipur police know very well who is committing these crimes. It seems they have friendly relations and secret dealings with them. That is why the killers dared to smoke cigarettes openly inside a police van and grin without fear,” the speakers alleged.
The protest rally called for the formation of a special tribunal to quickly try cases of journalist killings and assaults, as well as for ensuring state-backed professional security for journalists.
Speakers further said that attacks on journalists are often labeled as “personal disputes,” but journalists have no purely personal matters—every incident is linked to their professional duties. “If any attack is disguised as a personal issue, it will be resisted,” they warned. They also noted that at times, journalists have been forced to mingle with authoritarian forces for their own survival during times of crisis.
The protest rally was organized by the Bogura District Online Press Club on Wednesday afternoon at the Shaheed Khokon Park Central Shaheed Minar premises. Journalists were urged to unite against assaults, harassment, false cases, and persecution.
The event was presided over by Bogura District Online Press Club President Maksud Alam Hawlader and conducted by Acting General Secretary Nazrul Islam Doya. Speakers included Bogura Press Club Executive Member and Daily Inqilab Regional Head Mohsin Ali Raju, Bogura Press Club Treasurer Tanvir Alam Rimon, Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Media Movement in Bogura and Daily Manabzamin Correspondent Protike Omar, Bogura Multimedia Reporters Unity President Majedur Rahman, and General Secretary Foysal Hossain Soni.
Also present were members of the District Online Press Club editorial board, as well as leaders from online press clubs of Shibganj, Nandigram, and Shahjahanpur, along with journalists and media professionals from across the district.
