South African opener Matthew Breetzke made history on his ODI debut against New Zealand, smashing 150 runs, the highest-ever score by a debutant in One Day Internationals. With this innings, he broke a 47-year-old record held by West Indies legend Desmond Haynes, who scored 148 against Australia in 1978.

Playing at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Breetzke’s record-breaking knock helped South Africa post 304 runs in their first innings of the tri-nation series in Pakistan. Wiaan Mulder contributed with 64 runs, making him the second-highest scorer for the Proteas in the innings.

Liberty News’ sports correspondent states that Breetzke’s stunning performance marks a new milestone in ODI history, rewriting the record books on debut.
