Kylian Mbappé has claimed the 2024–25 European Golden Shoe, becoming the first Real Madrid player to do so since Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2014–15 season, marking a triumphant debut year in Spain.

After nearly a decade of waiting, Real Madrid finally sees one of its stars crowned as Europe’s top scorer. French forward Kylian Mbappé, who joined the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window, scored 31 goals in La Liga this season, earning 62 points and securing the prestigious Golden Shoe.

The European Golden Shoe is awarded annually to the top scorer across all European leagues, calculated based on a points system that weighs goals according to league strength. With Spain’s La Liga ranked among the top leagues in UEFA’s coefficient rankings, each of Mbappé’s goals was worth two points.

Mbappé edged out Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, who netted 39 goals in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. However, due to the league’s lower UEFA coefficient, each goal earned only 1.5 points, giving the Swedish striker a total of 58.5—three and a half points behind Mbappé.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah finished third in the rankings with 29 goals and 58 points, playing in the English Premier League, where goals also carry a two-point value.

Mbappé’s triumph is not only a personal milestone but also a moment of resurgence for Real Madrid, whose fans have long awaited such recognition since Ronaldo’s era. With this achievement, Mbappé reaffirms his elite status in world football and sets the tone for an electrifying career in Madrid.
