Angry locals attacked Sirajdikhan Police Station in Munshiganj after police failed to locate a missing student. Several vehicles and the office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police were vandalized during the protest on Wednesday afternoon.
The protest erupted over the disappearance of Roman, son of Miraj Sheikh from Kola village in Sirajdikhan. Roman, a student who also drove an auto-rickshaw, went missing on January 21 along with his vehicle.
According to eyewitnesses, police had initially detained three suspects and recovered Roman’s mobile phone and auto-rickshaw. However, the suspects were later released, leading to public outrage. Frustrated by the lack of progress, Roman’s classmates and relatives organized a human chain protest.
Following the protest, the agitated crowd stormed the police station and the office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police. During the attack, they vandalized two police pickups, a private car, and a microbus. Before dispersing, the protesters issued a three-day ultimatum for Roman’s recovery.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Mohammad Firoz Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police in Munshiganj, confirmed the incident, stating, “The attack occurred immediately after the human chain protest. Four vehicles and office furniture were damaged. No arrests have been made yet regarding the vandalism of government property.”
