Mahfuj Alam, an adviser in the interim government, has warned that mob demonstrations will be dealt with firmly from now on.
“If you support the uprising, then stop mob demonstrations. Otherwise, if you engage in mob violence, you will also be treated as devils,” he wrote on Facebook Monday night, referring to the government’s Operation Devil Hunt.
He continued: “We will now firmly deal with so-called movements and mob demonstrations. Any attempt to render the state ineffective or prove it to be a failure will not be tolerated.”
Addressing “Tawhidi Janata”, he said: “After a decade and a half, you have gained the opportunity to practice your religion and culture in peace. Your recklessness or extremism may now threaten that very peace. Refrain from oppression, or you will inevitably face oppression yourselves. Do not oppress, and you will not be oppressed. This is my final request to you.”
Mahfuj has previously posted against disorderly conduct on Facebook.
Liberty News’ national correspondent reports that following an announcement on the banned organization Chhatra League’s Facebook page regarding the broadcast of a speech by exiled autocrat Sheikh Hasina from India, widespread violence erupted in 35 districts, including at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka, starting Wednesday.
