Court on Monday granted bail to model Meghna Alam, who was accused in a high-profile fraud and extortion case involving allegations of operating a honeytrap scheme.
The bail order came from the court of Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Shanawullah after a hearing where Meghna’s legal team, comprising advocates Mohsin Reza, Mahima Bandhan, and Barrister Sadman Sakib argued for her release.
During the hearing, the defense maintained that there were no specific allegations substantiated against Meghna Alam and claimed the case was filed with the sole intention of defaming her. They also appealed for bail considering her gender and offered to comply with any conditions set by the court.
Previously, on April 17, Meghna was shown arrested in connection with the case and was subsequently sent to jail.
According to the case details, Meghna Alam, along with Deowan Samir and several unidentified individuals, allegedly formed a syndicate that targeted wealthy businessmen and foreign diplomats working in Bangladesh. They allegedly used attractive women to lure targets into illicit relationships and then extorted money from them by threatening to damage their reputations.
